	Sofia Rozaki (b.1990) is a visual artist. She studied painting at the School of Visual and Applied Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 2009 to 2013. She currently lives and works in Athens.
In her practice, she explores alternative narratives surrounding the body, gender, memory, trauma and sexuality. Through hybrid figures and compositions that blur the line between the real and the surreal, her works challenge dominant Western binaries. With a feminist and queer approach, Rozaki combines personal and collective experiences with a wide range of aesthetic references, crafting a vulnerably sincere and idiosyncratic visual language.

Titled “that’s what she said”, the exhibition appropriates a common punchline with a supposedly unintended humorous double entendre: a double meaning, one of which is typically obvious, while the other suggests an underlying message with sexual connotations. 2021-22, solo show, Alibi Gallery, curated by Eleni Michaelidi (Athens, GR)


The exhibition presents new works that negotiate the seemingly trivial – body parts, everyday habits, and little demons. Striking a fragile balance between pictorial mastery and a queer glitch aesthetic, Rozaki captures her generation’s perspective of contemporary lived experience as increasingly filtered and informed through the digital. The exhibition is curated by art historian Eleni Michaelidi.

Created for the most part within conditions of confinement in 2020-21, “how to host a rawmantic dinner party” bears testimony of a time when the world came to a standstill and we set out to notice the bare essentials, daily habits and ways of (co)existing.

Expecting the Barbarians
2020, commissioned illustration by Thessaloniki Film Festival
Thessaloniki Film Festival’s special edition IN APPRECIATION was published out of commerce in December 2020, presenting a little-known screenplay by Michael Cacoyannis based on C.P. Cavafy’s famous poem Expecting the Barbarians&#38;nbsp;(more widely known as Waiting for the Barbarians).

Intimacy: A Modern Tyranny
2020-21, group show, Thessaloniki International Film Festival, The Project Gallery, curated by Orestis Andreadakis (Thessaloniki - Athens, GR)


Cinema and visual art team up and take art to the public space. Twelve art works by Greek visual artists, inspired by the International Competition section films, are exhibited at the least expected locations, in Thessaloniki. A journey through the unique and perplex urban landscape of nowadays.For the fourth consecutive year, TIFF assigned 12 Greek visual artists to delve into an International Competition section film and craft a work inspired by this particular movie. The exhibition, carried out in collaboration with the Metropolitan Organization of Museums of Visual Arts (MOMus) with the support of the Outset Contemporary Art Fund Greece, was scheduled to be hosted, as every year, at the MOMus – Experimental Center for the Arts (Warehouse B1, Port of Thessaloniki). Following the developments regarding the pandemic, the exhibition took place in open-air locations.
61st TIFF’s main concept Intimacy: a Modern Tyranny was inspired by Richard Sennett’s book The Fall of Public Man (1977).&#38;nbsp;In his book, the American sociologist notes that modern man is confronted not with isolation and alienation, but with a fictitious intimacy that hinders real social contact,&#38;nbsp;ultimately removing the individual from the public sphere.

︎ Olly olly oxen free was inspired by danish film Shorta (Anders Olholm, Frederik Louis Hviid, Denmark 2020, 108’), a sharp-edged adventure of life-and-death urgency that delivers an acute social commentary, without resorting to simpleminded blame games or clean-cut definitions.

	an area of uncertainty the time of this eventthe where and how are faintly amusing details to this story
the importance lies between his unavoidable descentand that last moment he'd be seen and praised in all his glory

a sudden craving for sardines the dawn of his demisefor it's quite hard this time of day to find a good supplierand oh he tried, roaming the streets but much to his surprise
he failed for once to meet his uncontrollable desire

ready as he was to throw a fita singsong voice shouted “You're it”

and it is said, while filled with dread, the last thing he could hear
was “olly olly oxen free”then fell headfirst onto a tree

W.H.A.L.E.: Waves Hold A Lasting Echo
2019, solo show, National Archaeological Museum café, curated by Anastasia Valiri (Athens, GR)


A series of 13 visual works and a poem that were originally created for and presented at the National Archaeological Museum café&#38;nbsp;(Athens, GR) on May 2019.
Inspired by the story of the 52Hz whale, this series challenges the concept of selfhood as a solid entity. Subjectivity is being deconstructed and replaced by a fragmented version of itself with ever-changing features, reimagined as a discontinuity or a dashed line.

	“That's quite the conundrum”, she thought to herself- and that, you should know,
was a gross understatement -
as she was aware, I must assume,of the cow and the elephant in the next roomand yet,surprisingly so,she would secretly growfond of these freakishly odd get – togethersand she'd spend hourstrying to make sure
she was not missing any
of her newly attached feathers,
her shinny fish scalesor her long sharpened clawsthe stakes were highand that was becausefor years on endshe found herselfin this exhaustingly strange situationof beinglargely different but not quite uniqueborn with the wrong mouthwith no words to speakleft with these two useless one-of-a-kind skillsthat never helped her pay the billsthat gave her nightmares many a timeand had her running for the hillsfirst,she could sing in perfect pitcha high A-flat no one could hearbut more than thatfor each A-flatuttered in fear and left unheardher face would inch by inch fade outand in a flash would disappear


	last but not least,the second skillshe had perfected over the years- warning: do not try this at home -would often fill her up with tearsshe'd close her eyesstart spinning 'round52 circles in a secondand in this crazy whirl of painher hands were nowhere to be foundand knowing how it was all in vainshe would collapse crying on the ground
andalthough it would seem quite fairto think this ghostly sort of creature,
inside this vortex of despair,with no distinguishable feature
is just a constant waste of breath
you should think twice
'causetrying to decide what to wear
can take an awful lot of timeand climbing down from open windows
requires practice and precision
and there's this one kind of incisionno steady hand could ever makebut hers
unstable shaky ones
with the wrong number of fingers
and a loud touch that lingers
